Building Sand – Essential for Strong, Durable Mortar

Building sand is a top choice for creating reliable mortar in bricklaying, rendering, and pointing jobs. Known as bricklayer’s sand, soft sand, or masonry sand, this finely textured sand is extracted from natural sources such as beaches, riverbeds, and quarries to ensure quality and consistency.

Our building sand is made up of fine particles, no larger than 2mm, and has a natural moisture content of about 7.5%. Its colour comes from minerals like iron oxides, such as hematite and limonite, that are present in its source materials. This natural tint can vary depending on where the sand is sourced.

Building sand’s fine, soft texture and binding strength make it ideal for masonry work, providing a smooth, cohesive finish in mortar mixes. It’s also suitable for screeding and outdoor rendering.
